worldview of『曲』
Going straight ahead is not the only kind of beauty.
A path bends, allowing us to discover a view that was hidden beyond the turn.
A branch curves as it reaches toward the light.
And music becomes a melody because its notes rise and fall, quicken and slow, changing as they move forward.
Perhaps life is much the same.
Sometimes we leave the path we expected to follow.
Sometimes we stop. Sometimes we take the long way around.
Yet when we look back, we may discover people we met and landscapes we found only because the road once turned.
The notes beneath the girl’s fingers are not yet perfect.
But each uncertain sound joins the next, gradually becoming a small melody that belongs to her alone.
There is no need for every path to be straight.
The bends and turns we gather along the way may one day become the music that is uniquely our own.

story of『曲』
On a spring afternoon, blossoms swayed gently in the garden breeze.
Inside the tatami room, a little girl sat before her grandmother’s koto.
“What comes next?”
The girl looked back, and her grandmother smiled, slowly curving her fingers to show her.
The girl copied the movement and gently touched a string.
Pon.
A small, uncertain note sounded through the room.
She tried again.
This time, the sound was clearer.
One note, then another.
Little by little, the scattered sounds began to join together.
Her grandmother said nothing. She simply listened.
At last, the girl played the final note. Its lingering sound drifted beyond the veranda and dissolved into the spring garden.
“I did it!”
Her grandmother nodded.
“Sounds don’t become music simply by standing in a straight line.”
They rise and fall.
They quicken and slow.
The girl looked out into the garden.
The branches bending in the breeze, the winding path, even the clouds passing overhead—nothing was perfectly straight.
She reached for the koto once more.
This time, not to copy the melody exactly, but to search for a sound of her own.

Even winding roads have meaning.
