worldview of『郡』
When we live in one place every day, it can begin to feel like the center of the world.
The road we always walk.
The familiar shops.
The homes of people we know.
The river where we once played.
Together, they become the world as we know it.
But when we climb to a higher place, the landscape changes.
Beyond our familiar town is another town.
Beyond that are more houses, more fields, and more lives.
In the morning, people wake there.
In the evening, people return home.
Someone is laughing.
Someone is working.
Someone is waiting for a person they love.
From far away, a house may look like only a tiny roof.
But if we came closer, we would find an entire story inside it.
郡 invites us to look at such small places from a wider perspective.
One village.
A neighboring village.
Another beyond that.
Places that once seemed separate become connected by roads, bridges, and rivers, forming one larger region.
Perhaps people are much the same.
Sometimes we cannot see beyond our own life until we step back and look at the larger landscape.
There is our own everyday world.
There is the life of the person beside us.
And farther away are the lives of people we have never met.
Each life is different, yet all of them exist within the same larger world.
From the hillside, the girl’s village looks very small.
But the village itself has not become smaller.
Her world has become larger.
郡 does not gather smaller places together in order to erase their importance.
It allows each place to remain itself while showing us that it also belongs to something greater.
Beyond our own world, someone else’s world continues.
And when we learn to see them together,
a landscape appears that we could never have seen from only one place.

story of『郡』
One evening, a little girl and her grandmother climbed to a lookout high on the hillside.
As they stepped beyond the trees, a vast landscape suddenly opened before them.
“Wow…”
The girl could not help but stare.
A wide river wound slowly between the mountains.
On this side were rice fields and houses.
Across a bridge stood another group of homes.
Farther away, she could see temple roofs and still more villages scattered across the valley.
Grandmother pointed toward one of them.
“That is where we live.”
The girl was surprised.
The roads she walked every day and the river where she played looked so small from up here.
“Then what are those houses over there?”
“That is the neighboring village.”
“And beyond that?”
“Another village.”
The girl looked carefully.
There were people working in distant fields.
Others were crossing bridges.
Thin trails of cooking smoke were beginning to rise from the houses.
“People live in all those places?”
“Yes. Each place has its own homes, roads, and everyday lives.”
Grandmother traced the river through the valley with her finger.
“And for a very long time, groups of communities like these have been gathered together as larger regions.”
The girl looked across the landscape again.
When she had seen only one village at a time, they had seemed like separate places.
But from high above, she could see something different.
Roads connected one community to another.
Bridges connected opposite banks.
The river continued toward places even farther away.
As the sun approached the mountains, small trails of smoke appeared here and there across the valley.
Watching them, the girl said,
“So lots of little places can come together and make one big region.”
Grandmother smiled and nodded.
For a while, the girl continued looking across the wide 郡 before her.
Beyond the place she called home, countless other precious everyday lives were quietly continuing.
